Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Aumovio, a German automotive supplier, has announced a global restructuring programme that will result in up to 4,000 job cuts worldwide by the end of 2026.
The layoffs will affect sites in several countries, including Germany, Romania, India, Singapore, Serbia and Mexico. The programme includes the cuts in research and development activities and the consolidation of operations.
In Germany, the company expects to reduce about 905 jobs at its five sites across the country. The process in Germany is being conducted in dialogue with employee representatives, and a voluntary redundancy programme is scheduled to start in early March 2026, to avoid compulsory dismissals where possible.
In Romania, Aumovio plans to cut between 641 and 1,000 jobs across its three sites across the country Aumovio 2025-RO . The redundancies are accompanied by severance payments in line with the collective agreement.
The restructuring is driven by cost pressures, automation, and the need to refocus investments on future-oriented technologies such as electric mobility, software and advanced driver assistance systems.
Headquartered in Germany, Aumovio employs around 86,000 people globally and develops electronic and software solutions for major automotive manufacturers worldwide. The company was spun off from Continental in 2024.
