Description
AVL List, an Austrian engineering and technology company active in the automotive and mobility sector, announced the planned reduction of 350 jobs, mainly affecting employees at its headquarters in Graz (Styria), as part of an ongoing restructuring process.
The job cuts are driven by persistent market uncertainty, fluctuating customer demand and structural changes in the European mobility industry, with the measures expected to reduce the workforce at the Graz site to fewer than 3,000 employees by mid-2026.
The workforce adjustment will be implemented through dismissals accompanied by capacity adjustments, following earlier job cuts in summer and autumn 2025, and supported by a social plan including outplacement measures.Employee representatives are involved in the process, and company management, together with regional stakeholders, has emphasised the necessity of the measures to secure long-term competitiveness amid technological transformation.
The company wants to refocus their business activities investing more in new drive systems, such as hydrogen or battery-powered vehicles, and driver assisting systems using AI; also for new markets such as aircraft, shipping or the defence sector. AVL operates globally in powertrain development, testing systems and advanced mobility solutions and has repeatedly adjusted employment levels in recent years. Just last year in 2025, they dismissed 350 employees in summer AVL List 2025 - AT and another 100 in autumn AVL List 2025 - AT given predicted demand for their products for 2026.
