Vienna Airport (Flughafen Wien AG) announced the reduction of around 200 jobs affecting airport staff at Vienna International Airport in Schwechat, Lower Austria.
The restructuring is linked to a forecast decline in passenger numbers from a record 32.6 million in 2025 to about 30 million in 2026, driven by capacity reductions from key airlines, including aircraft withdrawals by Ryanair, the complete exit of Wizz Air in March 2026, and fleet downsizing by Austrian Airlines, alongside rising cost pressures and high aviation taxes.
The job cuts form part of a comprehensive cost-saving programme covering personnel and non-personnel expenses, with reductions expected to be implemented mainly through staff reductions.
The last job reduction registered by the ERM events database records back to 2011 Vienna Airport 2011 - AT.
