Description
The automotive supplier Eberspächer closed their site in Hermsdorf in Germany on the 31 December 2025. Consequently, 120 employees were laid off.
The job cuts are due to the decline in customer demand for electric vehicles. According to the company, the transition to e-mobility in Germany and Europe is progressing more slowly than expected. European manufacturers are ordering fewer high voltage components and the end of government subsidies in Germany has further worsened the situation.
In spring 2025, a social plan was drawn up for the employees, which provided for the gradual layoff of the 120 workers as well as the phased shutdown of production.
Eberspächer is a leading automotive supplier. The company operates around 80 sites in more than 30 countries worldwide and employs about 10,000 people. Its headquarters are in Esslingen (Baden-Württemberg) and the production facility in Hermsdorf, Thuringia, was purchased by the company in 2016 and has been active there since.
