Description
INEOS, a multinational chemicals company, announced the shutdown of two production units in Rheinberg, Germany, resulting in 175 job cuts. The closures, prompted by energy and carbon costs and a lack of tariff protection, are set to take effect after the announcement.
The restructuring is driven by crippling energy and carbon costs and the absence of tariff protection, which leaves European producers at a disadvantage compared to competitors in the US and China.
INEOS has previously closed plants in Grangemouth (UK), Geel (Belgium), Gladbeck (Germany), and mothballed assets in Tavaux (France) and Martorell (Spain). The company will focus on preserving its remaining PVC operations in Rheinberg to support roughly 300 skilled jobs.
