Description

Clariant, a Swiss specialty chemicals company, announced 170 job cuts following the closure of its bioethanol plant in Romania, and the downsizing of its biofuels and derivatives operations in Germany. The restructuring affects 120 jobs in Romania and 50 jobs in Germany.

In Romania, the restructuring is driven by technical problems at the Podari plant, which prevented it from reaching full production capacity and made the operation economically unsustainable. Clariant reported that the Romanian plant had accumulated significant financial losses: Clariant 2023 - RO

The company has 10,481 employees worldwide, 5,300 in Germany and 120 in Romania.
