Description

Foxconn Slovakia, a subsidiary of the Chinese electronics manufacturer, has announced plans to reduce its workforce at its manufacturing facility in Nitra, putting up to 300 jobs at risk. The company confirmed that the layoffs will be carried out gradually, with the process expected to conclude during 2026.

The decision is attributed to a prolonged decline in demand across European manufacturing markets, particularly in sectors linked to electronics and automotive production. According to Foxconn, lower order volumes compared to previous years have made it necessary to adjust production capacity and staffing levels.

The Nitra plant will continue operating after the layoffs, with Foxconn focusing on consolidating and optimizing its production activities. The workforce reduction is intended to improve cost efficiency and better align output with current market expectations rather than signal a closure of the facility.

Support measures are being prepared for affected employees in accordance with Slovak labour law. These include statutory severance packages, notice periods, and cooperation with labour offices to assist workers with job transitions and potential retraining.

Despite the planned job cuts, Foxconn remains a key industrial employer in the region. The company stated that the restructuring is a precautionary step aimed at stabilizing its Slovak operations amid ongoing uncertainty in European manufacturing demand.
