Description

The Japanese company Yazaki Saltano, a supplier of electrical and electronic systems for the automotive industry, dismissed 163 workers at its factory in Ovar with immediate effect, as part of a restructuring process.

The company states that the workforce reduction is intended to “ensure the viability of its operations in Portugal” in light of the challenges and cost pressures facing the European automotive industry. Yazaki states that it is implementing measures such as resource optimisation and technological integration to strengthen its competitiveness and its ability to attract new projects.

The company guarantees that “all applicable legal procedures are being complied with, and a dedicated support office has been set up for the affected employees”. The Ovar Municipal Council has committed to supporting the affected workers through income supplements, assistance with medication costs and emergency funds.

Previous internal restructuring was recorded in the ERM database in 2025, with 364 dismissals. Yazaki Saltano 2025 - PT
