Description
IMA Schelling, an international machinery manufacturer, has announced that it will cut more than 100 jobs in Europe.
The cuts will mainly affect its sites in Germany and Austria. The restructuring will hit the Lübbecke site in North Rhine-Westphalia particularly hard, while around 30 positions will be cut at the Schwarzach site in Austria. Part of the workforce reduction will be achieved through natural attrition and the non-replacement of vacant positions, although dismissals cannot be entirely ruled out.
The decision is driven by a weak order situation, a sharp downturn in the US market linked to current US tariff policies, low demand in the furniture industry, and significantly higher labour costs in recent years. Alongside the job cuts, IMA Schelling is implementing efficiency measures, including process optimisation, age-related departures and voluntary termination agreements, while also expanding internationally through the establishment of a new software development site in India.
Formed through the merger of IMA and Schelling in 2015, the IMA Schelling Group operates 18 sales, service and production subsidiaries worldwide, employing around 2,000 people globally. The company specialises in production systems for the wood, metal, and plastics-processing industries.
