Description
Posti, Finland’s national postal service, will cut up to 172 jobs as part of a restructuring measure driven by falling paper mail volumes and increased automation. The company says the changes are necessary to adapt to evolving customer needs and a shifting operating environment.
The measures include introducing automation at the Helsinki mail sorting centre, which will result in up to 79 job cuts. Restructuring of basic and early-morning delivery will further reduce 22 positions. Posti will also close five of its own retail outlets in Helsinki, Espoo and Jyväskylä, affecting 27 employees. In addition, customer service will be centralised at Posti’s largest centres in Helsinki and Rovaniemi, leading to up to 44 job losses.
