Description
The meat producer EWN Wurstspezialitäten (“Eberswalder Wurst”) will close its plant in Britz (Brandenburg) on 28 February 2026. The closure affects all 500 employees.
The reasons cited are a decline in sales, international price pressure, rising costs, and above all, necessary investments in the plant that would not have paid off.
An agreement on a balance of interests and a social plan has been reached; however, the Food, Beverages and Catering Union (NGG) criticises it as inadequate.
The site was taken over in 2023 by the Zur-Mühlen Group, which belongs to the Tönnies Holding. The “Eberswalder” brand will be retained, and the products will be manufactured at another location.
