Description
Aker Solutions, a Norwegian offshore engineering and oil services company, announced the reduction of more than 500 full-time equivalent positions, with around 300 job cuts affecting the company’s yard in Verdal, Norway, from early spring 2026. The restructuring is driven by an expected decline in activity in 2026 compared with 2025, due to fewer new projects and slower-than-anticipated growth in both the oil and gas and renewable energy markets, particularly offshore wind; the job reductions affect production workers as well as engineering and support functions across several locations in Norway and internationally. The workforce reduction will be implemented through a combination of natural attrition, early retirements, severance packages, and dismissals, with the final number of affected employees potentially adjusted depending on the company’s success in securing new contracts, and some employees may be temporarily reassigned to other sites such as Stord. Management has stated that the process will be conducted through open and orderly procedures in close dialogue with employee representatives, with an emphasis on mitigating the impact on those affected, and local management at the Verdal yard has acknowledged the challenges while stressing the need to adapt to market conditions.
Aker Solutions employs around 12,000 permanent staff globally, with 9,000 registered in the Norwegian branch of the company - including approximately 1,200 employees at the Verdal yard. Aker Solutions is a major supplier to the offshore oil, gas, and renewable energy industries in Norway and internationally.
