Description
The Government of the Czech Republic announced a reduction of 322 positions across the state administration from the beginning of January 2026. The largest number of positions will be cut in the Government Office (around 100 posts), the Ministry of Finance (57 posts) and the Ministry of Industry and Trade (41 posts). Smaller reductions are planned at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (29 posts) and the Ministry for Regional Development (7 posts), while further job losses across other ministries and subordinated agencies have not yet been specified and may follow in subsequent rounds
The decision forms part of a broader cost-saving and organisational restructuring programme aimed at reducing operating expenditure across central government. According to Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, the measures represent only a first round of savings, with further reductions expected to be identified in subsequent phases. The restructuring involves the merger or abolition of departments and sections within ministries and follows a review of internal structures, external contracts and consultancy spending.
At the beginning of 2025, there were 73,520 civil service positions in the public administration.
Civil service positions are job positions in state and local government that cover a wide range of fields (finance, taxes, IT, culture, transport, security, etc.)
