Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Estée Lauder Companies, the US cosmetics group, has announced that it will cut between 5,800 and 7,000 jobs worldwide by the end of 2026.
In Romania, the company is to close its global technology centre in Bucharest, which is expected to result in the loss of around 150 jobs by the end of 2025 Estée Lauder 2025-RO .
The cuts are part of the company’s wider ‘Beauty Reimagined’ restructuring programme. The company is to optimise global operations and improve profitability amid declining sales, particularly in China and travel retail. The restructuring includes changes to the operating model, brand organisation and geographic structure, and is being implemented alongside negotiations and statutory procedures at the local level.
Estée Lauder Companies employs about 57,000 people globally.
A previous restructuring programme was recorded for Estée Lauder in 2020: Estée Lauder 2020-WO
