Description
As announced on 26 October 2025, the German automotive supplier Gestamp plans to cut 150 jobs in Germany. Twenty-five employees have already left the company voluntarily.
The reason given for the layoffs is the upheaval in the automotive industry. However, the union IG Metall criticised this claim harshly, noting Gestamp did not see a recent decline in orders, and the business is looking stable.
Unsurprisingly, the works council, the union, and the company were unable to reach an agreement even in the second round of negotiations. The planned job cuts mainly affect indirect areas such as logistics and research, but not production itself.
