Description

Musashi Europe, the European division of the Japanese automotive supplier Musashi, plans to cut 487 jobs in Germany. The plant in Hannoversch Münden (Lower Saxony) with 187 positions will be closed. Additionally, the machining division with 200 employees in Leinefelde (Thuringia) will be closed, but the site's forge, with 60 employees, will remain in operation until 2028. Lastly, 100 jobs in Lüchow (Lower Saxony) are to be eliminated.

As reasons for the closures and job cuts, the company cites the transformation of the automotive industry, competition from Asia, and the rise in electric vehicles.

The automotive supplier and the IG Metall union have agreed on a severance and training/qualification package. This package is said to have averted a strike that had earlier been threatened by IG Metall. The layoffs at the Hannoversch Münden site will take place in three rounds, eventually ending in the closure of the said sites in March of 2027.

Musashi Europe employs around 2,500 people in Europe.
