Description
Bjelin Spačva, a Croatian wood-processing company operating in the manufacture of wood products, announced the permanent closure of its final production unit at the Spačva site in Vinkovci, resulting in job losses affecting around 124 workers. The restructuring mainly impacts employees working in final production, as well as maintenance, energy and other overhead staff linked to that unit.
The company operates five production units at the Spačva site: a sawmill, parquet production, final products production, veneer production and a biofuels plant. The decision to close final production was taken by management after assessing that this activity was no longer economically viable.
Employees affected by the closure were offered transfers to the nearby veneer production unit under amended contracts; however, only around 22 workers accepted these offers, citing less favourable working conditions and changes in pay coefficients. The remaining surplus staff were offered amicable termination with statutory severance pay and notice periods, while some workers also exited through retirement.
Bjelin Spačva is part of the Pervanovo Invest AB group, which operates in the wood industry across several European countries. Prior to the restructuring, the Spačva site employed around 670 workers.
