Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 28 November 2025, the search for an investor for the insolvent solar glass manufacturer Glasmanufaktur Brandenburg has failed. The closure will affect 220 employees in Tschernitz (Brandenburg), who are expected to receive their termination notices before Christmas 2025.
The insolvency is attributed to the crisis in the German solar industry caused by high energy prices and price pressure from China. With Glasmanufaktur Brandenburg closing, the last European solar glass manufacturer will disappear.
On 1 December 2025, 150 employees of the company protested against the closure following a call by the Industrial Union for Mining, Chemicals, and Energy (IG BCE).
The company was bought by the Indian solar glass producer Borosil Renewables in 2022.
