Description
The Austrian metal construction firm Heidenbauer-Gruppe, operating in the steel, aluminium, stainless steel, and roofing/facade segments, has announced significant job losses as a result of insolvency, affecting its approximately 130 employees across sites in Bruck an der Mur and Wiener Neudorf in the region of Styria. The restructuring impacts blue-collar and technical workers across all four units.
The company attributes its financial collapse to a combination of factors, including long-term pandemic-related impacts, difficulties repaying subsidies, substantial price increases in materials and energy, weakened demand linked to the downturn in the real estate market, and a recent major customer insolvency that triggered multimillion-euro losses. Two subsidiaries (Edelstahl and Dach & Wand) have applied for restructuring proceedings with planned creditor quotas of 20% and 30%, while the Aluminium and Stahl & Tragwerk units are entering liquidation.
Planned workforce measures include dismissals and the winding down of operations, with additional indirect job losses likely among suppliers and subcontractors, as more than 600 creditors are affected. Proceedings will involve court-appointed administrators and negotiations on restructuring plans.
The Heidenbauer Group, founded in 1946 and family-run in its third generation, has long been active in metal construction.
