Description

As announced on 20 November 2025, truck manufacturer MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland plans to cut 2,300 jobs over the next 10 years. The affected sites are Munich with 1,300 jobs, Salzgitter (Lower Saxony) with 600 jobs, and Nuremberg (Bavaria) with 400 jobs. Parts of production are to be relocated to Poland.

The restructuring is part of a cost reductions scheme. A weakening truck market in Germany, Asian competition and the high energy cost in Germany are cited as challenges for MAN's profitability. There will be no layoffs. According to the company, the job cuts will be socially responsible, for example through natural attrition. MAN also plans to invest one billion euros in Germany over five years to make its sites future-proof.

The IG Metall union and the works council criticise the plans. They argue that relocating production to Poland might mean that in the long run the Munich assembly site will also move to Poland. Furthermore, the union criticises that the company is not open to negotiations.

MAN Truck & Bus Deutschland is part of Traton and thus belongs to the Volkswagen Group.
