Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
At the production distributor Reiff Technische Produkte, 160 jobs are being cut, 90 of them at the headquarters in Reutlingen. In addition, the sites in Offenburg, Leipzig, and Chemnitz will be closed. The company filed for insolvency in July 2025 and is now being sold to Eriks. The staff reductions follow the concept of the new owner, Eriks, and are intended to avoid duplicate structures. The company cites weak market conditions in mechanical engineering as the reason for the insolvency. It was agreed with the works council that there will be no direct dismissals; instead, employees can transfer to a transition company for 10 months.
Prior to the cuts, Reiff Technische Produkte employed 585 people and supplied about 10,000 companies, including 2,500 major industrial customers.
