Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Sanmina, a US-based electronics and medical device manufacturer, has announced a major expansion of its operations in Ireland, creating 150 new jobs over the next 18 months at its facility in Fermoy, County Cork. Hiring has already begun, with recruitment focused on manufacturing engineers and technicians to support newly installed high-volume automation lines.
Sanmina currently employs approximately 400 people in Ireland. The Fermoy site was first established in 1989 and has grown to become the company’s largest medical facility in Europe. The expansion includes new automation capacity, a newly commissioned production line, and the development of an ISO8 clean room for the manufacture of wearable medical devices.
Sanmina operates multiple medical manufacturing sites across Europe and continues to rely on the Fermoy facility as a strategic location for high-tech production and engineering services.
