Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Proofpoint, a US-based cybersecurity company, has announced an expansion of its Irish operations with the establishment of a new AI Innovation Centre in Cork. As part of this growth, the company will immediately create 45 new specialist jobs, including data scientists, AI and large-language-model (LLM) experts, and security-operations personnel.
Proofpoint plans a second hiring round in the coming years, bringing the total number of new roles up to 100. These will support functions such as cloud security, data protection, and AI-driven cybersecurity product development.
Government representatives welcomed the investment as confirmation of Ireland’s status as a European hub for cybersecurity and emerging technologies. Proofpoint opened its Cork hub in 2024 see Proofpoint 2024 - IE and currently employs around 250 staff at the site as part of its international footprint of 4,500 employees worldwide.
