Amazon has announced a major global restructuring that will cut up to 14,000 corporate jobs worldwide.
In Spain, the company plans to eliminate approximately 1,200 corporate roles at Amazon Digital Spain in Madrid and Amazon Spain Services in Barcelona, while delivery and logistics operations in the rest of the country will remain unaffected Amazon 2025-ES . Affected employees will be offered 90 days to seek internal transfers within Amazon, with priority given to existing staff.
In Ireland, the company has filed a collective redundancy notification, with local media reporting that up to 150 positions may be at risk, though the exact number has not been confirmed. Amazon employs around 6,500 people in Ireland, and the cuts follow the recent cancellation of a planned €300 million facility in Dublin. Additionally, 470 positions will be cut in Luxembourg.
Amazon continues to adjust its workforce after heavy pandemic-era hiring and amid increased automation, including the expanded use of artificial intelligence to handle routine tasks. The restructuring programme is aimed at streamlining internal structures and reducing bureaucracy to enhance operational efficiency.
The announcement follows strong third-quarter financial results, with Amazon posting a net profit of $21.2 billion (up 38.2% year-on-year) and quarterly revenue of $180.2 billion, a 13.4% increase from 2024. It is the largest corporate layoff since 2022. The cuts mainly affect corporate divisions (HR, operations, AWS, devices/services).
