Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Swedish paper manufacturer Nordic Paper has initiated cooperation negotiations which threaten 73 positions out of a workforce of around 700 due to high production costs and persistent weak market conditions. The restructuring will affect three units in Värmland: Bäckhammar (27 jobs), Säffle (37 jobs, where the entire sheet-metal operation will be closed), and Åmotfors (9 jobs), 10 positions in Nordic Paper’s facilities in Norway and in Canada are affected.
The descaling is a reaction to a weak paper market, where input costs have continued to be high while the demand for paper on the global market is low.
Nordic Paper produces kraft paper and greaseproof paper for industrial and food-packaging uses and remains a major employer in the Värmland region with approximately 700 staff.
