Description
The Danish logistics company DFDS is undergoing a collective dismissal at its Ghent site in Belgium, where it employs around 300 people. The restructuring follows the non-renewal of a logistics contract by Volvo Cars, one of DFDS’s key clients. As a result, nearly 60 of the 70 permanent warehouse workers in the affected warehouse face job loss.
The dismissals will occur in two phases over the coming months. Earlier in the year, DFDS had already terminated the temporary contracts of around 50 workers. While some employees may be redeployed to other warehouse operations or clients, the majority will be impacted.
The ABVV union confirmed the dismissals and stated efforts are being made to retain jobs within the sector.
The company’s other warehouses continue to hold contracts with Volvo Cars and remain operational.
