Description
Vaco’s Kitchen, a Belgian producer of ready-made meals and part of the Culinor Food Group since 2016, has announced its intention to close its production site in Olen affecting 89 workers.
This decision follows the termination of a long-standing contract with supermarket chain Albert Heijn, the site’s main client. The plant is scheduled to close by September 2025, and of the 89 job cuts 66 are blue-collar positions and 23 are white-collar positions.
The announcement was made during a special works council meeting with trade unions ACV and ABVV. The restructuring falls under the Renault Law, and consultation rounds are expected to begin shortly.
The company also operates a second site in Herselt, which remains unaffected for now and may continue production for Albert Heijn until 2027, by which time the company hopes to have found new customers. Additionally, unions are currently investigating whether part of the staff can be transferred to the second location.
