Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
The Hager Group, a German manufacturer of electrical installation equipment, announced 150 redundancies at its Saverne site in France. The site, which produces home-automation products such as wall-mounted devices, programmable timers and control systems, employs around 300 workers. It will close as part of the group’s plan to reorganise its building automation activities. The other 150 employees are expected to be redeployed to Hager’s sites in Bischwiller and Obernai by the end of 2023. Also, production, logistics and supply chain activities will be gradually reduced in Saverne by the end of 2023.
