Description
The French manufacturer Cibem, which is part of the GNEC Group, specialises in wooden packaging. The company is set to cut 104 jobs as it prepares to close its Saint-Pierre-en-Auge site at the start of 2026.
Despite the investments made since the company's takeover in 2011, the site has remained in deficit. A week after the announcement, the trade union and management began negotiating the redundancy plan. Lactalist, the Group of the GNEC Group, is reducing its demand for milk by 450 million litres to reduce supply, putting at risk many companies that rely on it as their sole client.
Some employees have accused the company of planning to turn to to foreign markets for supply following the decrease. Several have also expressed their unwillingness to work for the group following the closure. Cibem could still be taken over under the right conditions.
