Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
As announced on 1 March 2024, the German construction machinery manufacturer Putzmeister plans to close two of its plants in Germany, one in GrĂ¼ndau (Hesse) and one in Heimertingen (Bavaria), by the end of 2024. A total of 280 employees will be affected.
The company intends to relocate operations to its sites in Turkey and Slovenia. The reasons cited include structural changes in the market and customer behaviour, as well as energy and production costs.
Putzmeister employs 3,300 people worldwide, around 1,100 of whom are based in Germany. It has been part of the Chinese company Sany since 2012.
