Description
The German company Spreewaldkonserve is cutting 200 permanent jobs at its sites in Golßen and Schöneiche (Brandenburg). The Schöneiche site will be closed, while the Golßen site will be retained. The job cuts will begin at the end of October 2025, after the end of the gherkin season.
The company no longer considers the current business model to be profitable. The switch from year-round operation to seasonal cucumber production is intended to increase profitability. Other product lines, such as red cabbage and beetroot, are being discontinued. The remaining jobs will be focused on seasonal work.
The jobs are to be reduced through a gradual reduction in staff until the next season; no further details on the redundancy measures are available.
Spreewaldkonserve was acquired by Andros in 2021 and is a traditional producer of the protected ‘Spreewälder Gurke’ brand with around 260 employees.
