Description
SGL has initiated collective dismissal procedures affecting 115 workers at its Melfi facility, prompting strong concerns from Matera Province President. The company operates as part of the Stellantis supply chain in the Basilicata region. The company sent dismissal letters on June 26, effective from July 31, following completion of trade union consultation phases without agreement.
Update, 02/07/2025:
Basilicata Region held a crucial meeting regarding collective dismissal procedures affecting approximately 115 SGL workers in Melfi. The session included Regional Councillor, department officials, company representatives, and trade unions including Fismic and UILM.
During the meeting, unions, company, and regional authorities agreed on a timeline to prevent dismissals and ensure employment continuity through requesting additional 12-month social safety nets. The discussion was postponed to July 9 pending technical verification by the Ministry of Labour.
Simultaneously, Basilicata Region launched retraining initiatives for workers currently receiving unemployment benefits, aiming to support industrial asset conversion and create new employment opportunities.
