Description
Balta, a Belgian textile producer specialised in the production of carpets and rugs, has announced it will cease production in two of its facilities. In total, 539 employees will be affected by the reorganisation. 300 employees will remain in total and another facility in Oudenaarde, employing around 96 people, will remain unaffected.
The company has been transferring its production capacity for several years to other companies, in particular to Turkey. The company management states that the ongoing pressure on demand and the high costs of wages, energy, and raw materials in our country are the main reasons for the decision. For them, it is financially no longer feasible to continue large-scale carpet production in Belgium.
