Wageningen University, active in the tertiary education sector, has announced plans to cut between 130 and 180 jobs, primarily affecting its supporting organisational units such as central staff services, the facilities department, and Education & Student Affairs in Wageningen, Gelderland. The restructuring is driven by a significant decrease in available funding—€80 million over the coming years—due to reduced government contributions, falling student numbers, increased labour costs, and lower private research funding. The €35 million cuts announced now focus on overhead and support functions, while another €45 million in savings will be identified and implemented over the next two years in areas with concrete budget shortfalls. The University Council is expected to issue its advice on the plan in early July.
