Description
Petrokemija, a mineral fertilizer producer from the City of Kutina, is closing two production facilities and laying off 160 workers. The company's management informed the trade union of this intention.
The representative trade unions underlined in their announcement that the new majority owner, the Turkish Yildirim Group, has not fulfilled its promises to preserve production. Trade unions requested an urgent meeting with the majority owner to get information about the company’s future of the factory. They also sent a letter to the relevant Ministry of Economy and requested the immediate involvement of the state, which has a controlling stake in Petrokemija. The trade unions reminded that Petrokemija is not only a workplace, but also the basis of existence for hundreds of families, and is also strategically important for Croatia and its agriculture.
Currently, the Kutina-based company employs 1,153 workers.
