European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Stihl, a German manufacturer of chainsaws and garden equipment, has announced plans to cut around 500 jobs globally.
The restructuring will mainly affect administrative roles, with a low three-digit number of job cuts expected in Germany: Stihl - 2024 DE The programme will be implemented through voluntary programmes and retirements, avoiding forced redundancies.
The company is to adjust to weaker-than-expected post-pandemic growth and increasing demand for battery-powered tools. Stihl aims to raise the share of electric products to 35% of total sales by 2027, up from 25% in 2024. This transformation includes significant investments in battery and electric motor production facilities in the United States, Romania, and Germany.
Founded in 1926, Stihl is a family-owned company and a global market leader in chainsaws. The company has its production sites in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Brazil, China, and Philippines, employing 19,700 people worldwide.
