Description
Olympia, a Belgian dairy producer and part of the Royal A-ware Food Group, has announced the closure of its facility in Pajottegem due to outdated infrastructure and economically unjustifiable investment needs. Despite efforts to modernise operations since the 2022 acquisition, the plant failed to meet efficiency targets. As a result, all 168 employees face dismissal under the Renault Law, with formal consultation processes initiated. The factory, established in 1946 and long considered a key local employer, has deep roots in the region. In response, the municipality, VDAB, and Voka organised a job fair on 21 October 2025 to support affected workers and other jobseekers. The initiative aims to prevent long-term unemployment and bolster the local economy. A proposed social plan has been approved by 80% of the workforce, offering some security during the transition.
Update, 19/09/2025
Final number of dismissals ended up on 167 employees. PES VDAB will provide information on training opportunities and offer individual guidance to help candidates find suitable employment. A job fair was organised where local companies will be able to present themselves and advertise vacancies.
