Description
The French Gaillard Group, a home healthcare provider which provides medical equipment, is closing down rendering 178 jobs redundant across its sixteen agencies nationwide. According to the employer's representative, tariff cuts have had a significant impact on the group, yet no single factor fully explains the bankruptcy. The group, which has been in business for fifty years and served around 9,000 patients, is the first national healthcare network to close its doors.
Despite the scale of the closure, no national actor has stepped in to take over the network. However, employees have volunteered to continue to look after patients on a temporary basis, helping them to find alternative services. Their salaries will continue to be paid for two to three weeks.
