Description
Formica, a Spanish producer of high-pressure laminate flooring, has announced the dismissal of 154 employees due to the closure of its sole manufacturing facility in Spain, located in Albal (Valencia), following irreparable damage caused by the storm DANA on 29 October. The company has deemed the reopening of the plant unfeasible and will proceed with an employment redundancy file for the whole workforce of the Albal manufacturing plant
From now on, Formica will focus exclusively on distribution through its centres in Getafe, Molins de Rei, and Zamudio, with a new logistics hub planned for Picassent (where around 18 employees may be relocated). The firm has also proposed reassignments to its other European sites. However, the workers’ committee has expressed strong opposition. Protests have already taken place, and the workforce is seeking regional government support, threatening legal action should negotiations fail.
This decision marks another contraction in Formica’s industrial presence in Spain, following the closure of its Galdakao manufacturing plant in 2012 Formica 2012-ES
