Description
The historic ceramics manufacturer Sargadelos has announced the closure of its factory in Cervo (Lugo), impacting around 200 workers.
The decision follows a €5,000 fine issued by the Labour Inspectorate, which identified 36 safety and operational deficiencies deemed unsolvable in the short term. Segismundo García, the sole administrator, cited the lengthy bureaucratic procedures required for renovations—estimated at six months to a year—as a key reason for the closure. He also proposed repurposing the site, a protected cultural landmark since 1972, as a ceramic interpretation centre. In his letter, García criticised the inspection’s tone and demands. Employee representatives have strongly rejected the measure
