The food retail store Coop Syd has initiated an internal restructuring with the plan to cut 160 jobs. Of the dismissals, 140 will consist of store personnel and 20 white-collar administrative staff.
Coop Syd, which has stores operating in Skåne and Blekinge regions in Southern Sweden, has had difficulty making profits. The financial result of 2023 was negative. The company states that it will focus operations on profitable stores.
Trade union consultations have begun and are expected to be completed within six to eight weeks.
Coop Syd is the regional branch of Coop, one of Sweden's largest food retailers. Coop Syd operated 98 food stores before the restructuring and has 857 staff.
