Description
Moravian-Silesian Sugar Mills announced the decision to close the sugar mill in the city of Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou. 150 people will lose their jobs.
Operations will only be maintained at the second Czech plant in Opava.
The reason is the pressure of cheap sugar imports into the EU, mainly from Ukraine, which has led to a dramatic drop in prices.
Support measures will be prepared for the dismissed employees, such as retraining and occupational training programs, the possibility of taking up a job in other locations where the group operates. In addition, job advice will be provided in case people want to change their professional orientation.
The Austrian parent company Agrana will also close the plant in Leopoldsdorf (east of Vienna), where 120 employees will be laid off.
