Description
The French sugar manufacturer Ouvré Fils is ceasing production, leaving its 109 employees in Souppes-sur-Loing (Seine-et-Marne) redundant. The independent family business, which had operated since 1873, also collaborated with 300 planters. In autumn 2023, sugar production was disrupted due to pollution from the Loing river. However, the company lacks the financial capacity to recover, and banks have withdrawn their support, preventing the resumption of operations.
Cristal Union and the company have established an agreement to support employees, planters, and producers. Annual contracts might be offered for the 2025 harvest.
