European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Makyta, a Slovak textile manufacturer announced complete shutdown of it's clothing production after 85 years in business. The company will lay off at least 125 employees, that is a vast majority of their workforce. The company will close because of adverse market conditions, and cites among the reasons luxury good order shortages and increase of production costs.
Redundancies will affect seamstresses and admin employees as well. The company offers severance packages to its longest-tenured employees.
The company was the largest employer in Puchov region in the past, contributing to the town development from 3000 to 10000 citizens.
The company workforce has been steadily declining since 2009, when it has 2,900 employees.
