Description
The Neratovice-based chemical company Spolana, part of the Orlen group, has begun restructuring its current production. The company will lay off around 500 employees out of the 650 staff over the next few months.
The laid-off employees will be offered termination of employment by agreement with severance pay beyond the legal obligations and conditions specified in the collective agreement. The amount of severance pay will reflect the length of employment. The company will also help laid-off employees to find new job.
In recent years, the petrochemical segment has been undergoing a fundamental transformation towards a long-term decline. Since Spolana's production capacities are rather small at the European market, the current production is no longer competitive.
The company will end production of PVC and caprolactam in the first half of the year, and the changes will also affect the current organizational structure.
Spolana has been part of the Orlen group since 2016, producing chemicals such as sulfuric acid, hydrochloric acid and oleum. The company was also the only producer of PVC and caprolactam in the Czech Republic.
