European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
Kiefel, a German machinery manufacturer based in Micheldorf, Austria, will close its subsidiary, Kiefel Packaging GmbH, by the end of 2025. This will result in the loss of 130 jobs. The closure was announced abruptly on 5 November 2024.
Production of tools for fibre and tipping machines, as well as automation of thermoforming machines, will be relocated to other company sites. The company cited challenging market conditions in the machinery sector as the primary reason. However, union leaders and local authorities, including Micheldorf's mayor, were quick to criticise the lack of prior warnings and the suddenness of the closure.
The company with the works council will try to have a "rapid social plan". Talks with the works council are to take place on 6 November 2024.
Kiefel is part of the Brückner Group, which employs around 2,900 people globally.
