European Restructuring Monitor (ERM)
The restructuring events database contains factsheets with data on large-scale restructuring events reported in the principal national media and company websites in each EU Member State. This database was created in 2002.
ArcelorMittal Centres de Services, a subsidiary of the large steel manufacturer, has announced the closure of two sites in June 2025, located in Reims and Denain. This decision will result in the loss of 112 jobs in Marne and 24 in the North. The closures are attributed to difficult economic conditions in the automotive and industrial sectors, leading to a decline in sales.
Following the announcement, workers at the Denain site immediately went on strike. Trade union representatives criticized the company for failing to anticipate and mitigate the impact of shifting market trends. They also condemned the lack of alternative solutions. In response, management has scheduled a meeting with social partners to discuss and consult on social measures. Some internal mobility opportunities will be offered to affected workers.
Trade unions have called on employees across all eight ArcelorMittal Centres de Services sites to mobilize. In Reims, employees lit a fire using wooden pallets, and blocked traffic. A CFDT delegate from Reims expressed concern about the company's willingness to relocate operations to India, Brazil, or the United States.
