Ethics in the digital workplace
Digitisation and automation technologies, including artificial intelligence (AI), can affect working conditions in a variety of ways and their use in the workplace raises a host of new ethical concerns.
Austrian motorcycle and bike producer Pierer Mobility has announced that it will cut 200 jobs worldwide by the end of September 2024.
The cuts will be carried out in the third quarter of 2024, and primarily affect positions in Austria. The company is also reducing production volumes by a quarter and streamlining product development. The decision has been driven by a significant decrease in sales in the motorcycle and bicycle sectors, combined with escalating employee expenses.
In the first half of 2024, the company reduced its workforce by 373 employees, 309 of whom were based in Austria.
Pierer Mobility, formerly KTM Industries, was founded in 1992. The company’s main manufacturing facilities are located in Austria, with additional operations in India through its partnership with Bajaj, a joint venture with Maxcom in Bulgaria. Pierer Mobility employs around 6,000 people worldwide, with a significant portion of its workforce based in Austria.
The restructuring programme in Austria has been recorded in the ERM Pierer Mobility-2024-AT.
