Description
LKQ, a US-based multinational distributor in car parts, has announced that it will close two of its facilities in Maasmechelen and Mornimont, putting 266 jobs at risk.
The situation at the Vilvoorde site is more unclear and ‘a logistics transformation’ may follow. In total 266 of the 800 jobs in Belgium are under threat. According to the company management, the reorganisation is part of a sustainable long-term strategy, in which the organisation intends to focus on optimising its branch network, customer proximity and improved product offering. The management may move some of the activities to the Netherlands
In the coming weeks, the unions will be invited to participate in information and consultation rounds as prescribed under the Renault Law.
