Description
The Pelligra Group, an Italian-Australian enterprise led, has won the bid to reconvert the former Blutec plant in Termini Imerese, near Palermo. To support this initiative, the government of the Sicilian Region has approved a 30 million euro allocation from the European Social Fund.
Of the 523 workers currently on layoff, 183 will be offered early retirement through an "isopensione" scheme, while the Pelligra Group will hire the remaining 350 employees. The Sicilian Region has committed to support the retraining of these newly hired workers, ensuring a smooth transition and addressing the needs of all affected staff members.
This solution is supported by all parties involved, because it aims to end the uncertainty for the workers and their families, preventing collective dismissal.
The plant's acquisition by Blutec, in 2016 had followed the withdrawal of the previous owner, FIAT. This restructuring case can be found here: Blutec 2016 - IT
